Bears and Police Blotter: It's a Two-fer!

For those of you who can't get enough of our bears, there are photos here.

But now for what you really want, if your e-mails are any indication:

Taxi
Taxi driver reported a man who habitually fails to pay his fare in her and other's taxis had once again absconded without paying. Officers found the man sleeping in another man's house, and walked with him through the neighborhood until he was able to beg enough money from friends to pay the taxi driver.

Suspicious Person/Activity
An apartment manager, clearly frustrated by the number of non-tenants who park in his parking lot, used a front-end loader to remove an illegally parked vehicle and then block it in another space. The vehicle owner chose not to pursue charges in spite of the damage that was done to her vehicle.

Welfare Check
Woman reported that while out for a walk in a local park, her dog had sniffed at an unmoving body that was covered with "garbage." An officer contacted a now upright and urinating man who had bedded down in the park on cardboard and plastic bags because his assigned bunkroom was too noisy. He was advised that park rules do not allow for camping.

Suspicious Person/Activity
Caller reported three large men were sitting on his car and refused to get off when he asked them to do so. An officer subsequently contacted one of the big men, who admitted to leaning against but not sitting on an irate man's truck. The big man denied that any other men, large or small, were involved in the altercation.

Traffic Crime
A driver who had been stopped for a minor infraction drove away before the officer had finished writing her citation, and continued driving for almost a mile, while he followed with lights and siren, until another officer blocked her in the roadway. The woman justified her actions by saying she had just returned from a trip abroad, but admitted that in that country too police use sirens, red and blue lights and drivers are expected to stop when signaled to do so by police.

Traffic Roads
A driver who mistook a snow-covered sidewalk for a roadway tried to turn off the sidewalk and drove into a ditch. The driver, new to town, apologized profusely for his mistake.

Sandy,

Re: the apartment manager, I've been tempted to do that, myself. Glad you like the pictures. :)

Yup-the bears are around again. Dumb people leave their garbage out in plastic bags. You can see it strewn all down the road.

Chickenmom, the Muni fines people whose trash winds up strewn about (yes, strewn about!), but it's a small fine. I guess not enough folks are scared of it, yet.
