I expect that we'll get more such visitors once we're in the new house. It's in a heavily-wooded area, some six hundred feet higher on a mountainside.
Of course, we'll get bears, too, but that's one of the things about life in Alaska: we're just sharing their habitat.

:) Well . . . as long as they're onboard with that . The "bears" that is.
Cathy, let's just say that, in Alaska, humans are not at the top of the food chain. We tolerate the moose; the bears (mostly) tolerate us.
And as long as Y'ALL remember that (AND carry an equalizer just in case)...
NFO, it would be a mistake to forget that we're two or three rungs below the top ... and I never, ever leave home without the equalizer.
As i have told you before a shotgun with slug and keep your dog on a lead outdoors or a .444 marlin or 45/70 and i know a mate who has a Win 1886 in 50/110. Andy
And on second thoughts how about a S&W 500 revolver or a ruger in 450 alaskan.
Ajd - all good suggestions. Most here consider a .44 Magnum handgun to be "entry level" protection.
Think I'd rather see a mama moose than a mama bear! :o)
Chickenmom - it depends on the distance involved. I've been within 30 feet of a moose, inadvertantly, but it helps to backpedal at a steady pace when that happens.
Bears? They can have the whole area, as far as I'm concerned; I'll just stay indoors until they're gone.

I love the pictures of the moose hanging around homes in the area.
We've moved into animal territory therefore, we have to give them their space. You'll enjoy the view from your mountain home once your settled in. May have to carry a gun with you more often up there.
Sandy, there's no time at which I don't carry, especially this time of year when the bears are coming out of hibernation.
