Police Blotter: Miscellany

Environmental
Caller reported several individuals molesting salmon in the Iliuliuk Creek. Officers responded and determined the subjects to be Chinese foreign nationals. The individuals were advised that they could not molest the salmon and a fishing license was needed to fish in Alaska. The individuals were not familiar with regulations concerning fishing in Alaska, apologized for their actions and vacated the area.
 
Assault
Caller reported two individuals fighting in the middle of the road. Officer responded and observed the individuals wrestling in the middle of the road. Officer interceded and broke up the melee. Both subjects who were intoxicated did not want to pursue charges and apologized to each other.
 
Criminal Mischief
Caller reported an approximately 30 year old, intoxicated male, throwing rocks at cars on Airport Beach Road. Officers responded and contacted three individuals in the area. All were intoxicated, denied throwing rocks but were apologetic to officers anyway.
 
Assault
Officers responded to the Harbor View Bar regarding an altercation between two female patrons, one of whom had videotaped the other dancing. Eventually both women agreed to leave the other alone.
 
Trespass
Officer issued a trespass advisement, per Unisea Security, to two people who were out for an adventure and found themselves on the roof of Unisea's G2 plant. The two left the area without incident.
 
Suspicious Person/Activity
Officers contacted three boys who had been using an Airsoft-style rifle for target practice at Sitka Spruce Park, and talked to them about general shooting safety and better locations for their target practice activities.
 
Theft
Caller reported a vehicle, left unlocked with the keys inside, had been stolen from the airport sometime in the last few days. About an hour later the caller reported that the vehicle had been found, at the airport.
 
Domestic Disturbance
Caller reported his brother being drunk and abusive. Officers responded and observed the two highly intoxicated brothers. One brother was accusing the other of not doing anything around the house. [The dipsomaniacs] were advised to behave civilly and to discuss their problems when they sober up.

Salmon is such a vital part of the Alaskan economy (most Natives in the villages are still on a subsistence lifestyle, living on what they can hunt, catch, or harvest) that such things are taking very seriously here.

Chickenmom, I was quite amused by your comment, and why not? It was funny. I was only explaining why "molesting salmon" is a criminal infraction, up here. :)

It's a criminal infraction elsewhere too. It's just usually lumped in with "crimes against nature".

Yep, leading to the inevitable "shades of grey" that the courts are forced to wrestle with. Ah, well.
