Since the question always arises, I'm 5th from the left, back row. |
Me (the tall one) during a company inspection, in boot camp. |
It doesn't seem possible to have been so long ago, but that's life. Fun flies when you're doing time ... oh. Wait.

I was in the Department of the Navy, too. The men's Department! Hahahahaha! I kid. Because without inter-service rivalry, we'd have peace!
Drove past Great Mistakes many, many times when I lived in the Chicago area.
I seem to recall my Dad spending some time there, but I'm not sure if that's where he did boot, as he was SeaBees.
I know he "did some time" at Port Hueneme.
Steve, without the inter-service rivalry, it would have been less fun. :)
Jim, he probably attended either boot camp or a training school. SeaBees start out as recruits, too. Port Hueneme is kind of the "home base" for SeaBees, after they finish their initial training.
I did spend a lot of time amongst the riffraff. I was on the Fort Fisher (LSD 40) for a few weeks, and did a WestPac on the Peleliu (LHA 5).
Those ships see some hard duty.
