A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Proverbs 15:1 KJV
A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire.
Proverbs 15:1 MSGDon't let the hotheads, the deliberately provocative, intentionally argumentative people of the world ignite an angry response. They try to provoke you, but remember that when you argue with an ignorant person, they'll drag you down to their level. They'll beat you, because they have far more experience at that level than you have.
Don't let them trigger your anger; keep your head, and temper your response. If you must respond, do so in kindness and love. Say as little as possible, refusing to provide them with any ammunition to use against you.
Remember Whose you are, and what He has entrusted to you. As His representative, let your words be soft and loving.
Don't play their game.

I am getting better at this Reverend - through long years of not being good at it.
It takes most of us too long to learn that amount of restraint. But good for you, for learning the lesson.
Agreed. Hard to remember and learn; but needed.
Thank you, Reverend.
