We shot at them for 8 years straight with the most modern equipment available at the time, and probably hit what we were aiming at a few times too.

Some of the British officers left written accounts of the efficacy of colonists’ aim, including the phrase “their damned rifle guns.” Our marksmanship was never in question. Heh.
