They survived the ordeal just fine, until they got back home. The vet's office loaned us three cones o' shame, and the cats Did. Not. Like. It.
Picture three drunken furballs cannonballing backward around the house, crashing into furniture, walls, stairs, lamp poles, and various figurines in a vain attempt to shed the eeeeevil restraints.
Drunken? Well, that's verbal shorthand (obviated now, of course) for "just coming out of general anesthesia." That's code for, "stagger three times and fall over".
In between waves of nigh-unconsciousness, they would get a spurt of energy, whereupon the cannonballing began.
The cones are about 3/4" too long for the kittehs' faces, so they couldn't eat or drink. Not good. We found some inflatable collars at one of the chain stores. They're held in place primarily by looping the cats' collars through them.
Our cats don't have collars, so the inflatable armored donuts don't work.
This is all a verbose way of saying that we didn't get much sleep last night.
Not enough of this today. |

My vet says "Keep an eye on it. If necessary, get one of the flexible fabric ones at the pet store." Haven't needed an e-collar in ages.
Yep, "flexible fabric" is what we got: an inflatable ring sewn into a heavy-duty cordura nylon wrapper, with handles & Velcro.
Wow... THAT should have been on video! :-)
We were so alarmed by the threatened destruction that I completely forgot my camera.
When we "fixed" our cats/kittens we never use cone. They survive and heal just fine with no issues. Most are barn cats and the carrier gets taken to barn and left overnight. We open it in the morning and they are off like a shot. We did the dogs like this as well. Occasionally we tell them to stop licking cause the sound is annoying but they haven't had any issues. They also spend most of their time outside. The anesthesia wearing off is the worst part but they are quieter while that happens so that helps keep them calm.
Our kitties came home with the cones pre-installed. But once removed, there was no going back. Doesn’t seem to have hurt them at all. Thank you. 😎
