We took possession of the house in May, 2016. Long before that day, this was the living room window:
No curtains, no screen except the trees in the front yard (and there were many, until last year). Everything we did in that room was open to view, so to speak.
We finally had enough of the sun in our eyes on summer mornings, and all the neighbors' various and sundry yard lights, security lights, and spotlights from sundry directions, at all hours of the evening and night.
Last year's replacement of the septic system, and resultant relocation of the leach field, took away the woods from in front of the house. Now, we and the neighbors across the street could see (distantly) into each other's living rooms.
SWMBO averred that some sort of vision- and light-blocking treatment would be both appropriate and appreciated. My mother may have raised an ugly son, but not a stupid one.
So this is what I did, yesterday afternoon:
Taken in dim lighting, but you get the idea. They fit - and work - remarkably well.

They look quite nice! SLW had "Window Treatments" up in the first few days that we moved in here.
Are these the "Home Depot Specials", or did you get them from one of the Internet places that makes them to your measurements?
We have the cheep vinyl blinds in most of the rooms, and they're getting saggy, and a couple of them have that $$dd@@hh%% string tangled up, meaning it's a major pain to raise/lower them evenly.

jim, we ordered them from blinds DOT com. They were made precisely to our measurements from heavy-duty non-wood material, and are guaranteed to fit. Word of advice: if you have latches, cranks, or other projections, make sure to take your measurements from those points.
Linda, thanks. The cats heaved a great sigh of resignation, since that window is now like all the others. They'll live. :)
I've heard their commercials on the radio. It would be a nice project for the Spring, along with fixing the cranky crank-out windows! At least they're name brand "Windsor Wood Windows", so repair parts and YouTube videos abound.
And the outer frames could use sanding, priming, and painting. When the previous owners painted the exterior, it was sprayed, and it's thin in spots (like the window frames!) and just starting to lift. Might actually be peeling a bit when Winter's over.

I understand the cat issue. They will, I assume, recover from this indignity.
TB, the installation was remarkably stress-free. Everything fit correctly on the first try, and it was done in no time.
Regarding the cats, they treat it like every other window or patio door in the house: they take up position at its base, and glare at us until we open the blinds. Then they can survey their domain at leisure.
Cats do have a way of showing their displeasure, don't they? :)

LaTM: I'm glad your project went well, too. I especially like the metal frame on the header, so that the "plastic sag" doesn't happen. "Murderfloof" isn't my invention, but I adopted it. Seems appropriate.
Our cats will watch geckos for hours.
And definitely will hunt them if they get inside.
Hopefully the cats won't take them as a 'challenge'...
