Good morning, world!
We had three inches of snow when we arose at 0400.
04:00-ish |
At 0445, the power went out. With the aid of many battery-powered camping lights, lanterns, and the occasional flashlight, we went about morning ablutions, improvised breakfast, and a change in planned attire.
I held a pocket flashlight in my mouth while I cleared 5"+ of heavy, wet snow off of the car, and off we went. More or less on time, too.
06:25, snowing in earnest |
Roads weren't bad, since the ground temp is still above freezing. The snow immediately turns to slush, with the obvious result of wet, sloppy driving conditions. Not too slick, though, except where slush builds up between lanes.
So, with the exception of the power outage (think too many leaves still on the trees + heavy, wet snow + power lines), it's a fine morning.
Given our forecast, those ground temps may not remain above freezing for much longer. Ah well, just part of the grand pageant comprising Alaska.
Have a great day, everyone.

You all have a safe, blessed day, Reverend!
YOWIE! We haven't even had a freeze yet.
I spoke to soon. The first "Frost Advisory" of the season was issued an hour or so ago.
Gotta bring in the plants tonight!
Wow. That is crazy, at least to me.
Reverend, I should know the answer to this and I do not- how do you heat in the event of an outage?
TB, the fireplace and a couple of small propane heaters take care of things nicely.
Get ready, brother. It’s here.
Keep it up there!! I am not ready for the "s" word yet!!
We usually get snow the week of Halloween around here.
I did make an appointment to get new tires as the ones on currently are a bit worn, and wont have much traction if I was in snow.
Be careful, and hope the power gets back on line quickly!!
It’s a bit early for us, too. At least for five+ inches. Power by tomorrow, they say. LOTS of trees down, and power lines with them.
How about a headlamp rather than a flashlight in the mouth.....:)
If I had one, I would have.
Thanks for reminding Reverend. Pretty sure after all your years of being there you have it covered, but I could not for the life of me remember.
