Winter Redux, All Over Again

I'm glad that I had the snow tires removed from my truck on Monday. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been prepared for the two three four inches of fresh snow we have this morning.

'Tis snowing heavily, with what appears to be small snowballs falling from the sky.

Sigh ...

Easter & the Weather

We've noticed a kinda-sorta strange thing, since moving to Alaska a dozen years ago.

On Easter Sunday, the weather almost always changes. If we've had lots of snow, the sun comes out.
If it's been sunny, it rains.

Or today, after what is now the least snowy winter on record in Anchorage ... it snowed.

It's only a half-inch or so, and will soon be gone as we approach our predicted high of 45. But still the pattern holds.

Strange, that.

Just An Inch Away (UPDATED)

As of 10 am Saturday, 1.5 inches of new snow has fallen since midnight. This brings the 2011-2012 seasonal snow total to 131.7 inches. The all-time seasonal snowfall record belongs to the winter of 1954-1955 with 132.6 inches. We're 1.0 inch away from setting a new record; that won't be hard to do.
Then the blankety-blank stuff can all melt.  QUICKLY.
It's been doing this ever since I posted this:

April in Alaska

Fresh snow this morning.

Time to put on the coffee.

Winter Lingers On

It finally began to rain overnight, and we have falling temps this morning. Last time I looked out, the cars were turning white.

The morning drive shall be interesting. But happy Friday anyway!
