The atmosphere at work today was quiet, bordering on "there's nobody here" ... but the place was fully occupied. One person described it as shell-shocked, which might not be a bad simile. All those doctors and nurses were really, REALLY hoping for a different outcome.
Like many of the so-called red states, Alaska swung harder to the right: we already have a governor with an R after his name, and the Repubs controlled the State house. Yesterday, several Ds were unseated in the Senate (some due to redistricting), and the Rs now control that as well.
The next few weeks and months could be interesting, to say the least.

Wearing the Hat Once More
The preacher hat, that is.
I'm writing this at 6:15pm Alaska time, which is 10:15 ET. I don't yet know who will win the election, but there's something on my heart which I must share with those of you of like faith.
As I was recently praying concerning the elections and all that has been transpiring in our country, the Lord quickened my heart concerning our stance in prayer AFTER tonight. Let me preface what I am about to say with this: this is not about WHO is elected, but WHAT goes on during the next several weeks. I am in no way trying to predict or prophesy about who will be elected.
I'm writing this at 6:15pm Alaska time, which is 10:15 ET. I don't yet know who will win the election, but there's something on my heart which I must share with those of you of like faith.
As I was recently praying concerning the elections and all that has been transpiring in our country, the Lord quickened my heart concerning our stance in prayer AFTER tonight. Let me preface what I am about to say with this: this is not about WHO is elected, but WHAT goes on during the next several weeks. I am in no way trying to predict or prophesy about who will be elected.
What
was quickened to my heart and spirit was how important it is (no matter
who is elected) to be praying during this next several weeks, generally
called the “lame duck” period. The Lord
impressed me that there will be NO LAME DUCK period and it is imperative
that the CHURCH continue to pray for this country and our leadership;
that we bind any spirits that would seek to put in place laws,
regulations, etc. that would have an ill effect on this country,
manipulating things that will go on after our next president is sworn in
office. It was almost as if I could ‘hear’ the
enemy conspiring to do so and feeling they would be able to because the
Church had quite praying because the elections were over. I
really sense there will be an attempt to do so BEHIND the scenes and it
is vitally important that we come against any plans of the enemy in
this regard. Let us not be lulled to sleep by
complacency but continue to ‘man our prayer stations’ and call forth the
plan of God for this great country of ours.
Again, may God bless America - and may America bless God.

Voting precincts in Alaska open at 7 a.m.; I arrived at 6:42 and was the fifth one there. The weather is chilly and windy, and we got a dusting of snow overnight, but nothing that affect anyone's ability to get to the polls.
When the doors opened, there were a dozen or so folks behind me. Cast my ballot and was pulling out of the lot at 7:11.
At that point, the lot was already full, with cars circling looking for parking spots. If nothing else, this has stirred up the so-called Silent Majority. I suspect they'll not be silent, today.
East Coast returns start coming in at 3 o'clock, our time, so the afternoon will be interesting. Local polls don't close until 8 p.m., so local results won't be known before 9:00. Makes for a long wait, but it's worth it.
As another has already, vote like our nation's fate depends on it. Why? Because it does.

I recently wrote about the high price of gas in Alaska, but thought I should update that info with this bit: the price in my neighborhood dropped to $3.99 this morning. Never mind that it's still higher now than it was a month ago; it's down just in time for election day.

Getting Away With It, More or Less Dept: A Wasilla woman who embezzled $75,000 from Chugiak High School has reached a plea bargain with the court; her attorney told the court she has already paid back about $12,000, and will repay an additional $60,000.
So let me get this straight: if I steal a boatload of money from a local school, and - when caught - agree to pay back most of it, I can walk away with only probation?
And the judicial council is still incredulous that "social conservatives" are playing a role in the reelection of judges. Hmph.

I'm cautiously in the camp of those who believe Romney will win by a substantial margin ... and firmly in the camp of those who believe he'll have to be watched like a hawk to keep him on the conservative side of the road.

"Frankly, it's appalling what they are doing," said Larry Cohn, executive director of the Alaska Judicial Council. Politics are supposed to be removed from the process, he said.It seems that when he ruled in favor of public funding for abortions, and over-ruled the parental consent law passed by voters a couple years back, local parents took it personally.

Our Tax Dollars At Work, and Other Things
Regular readers are aware that Alaskans do a LOT of business through Amazon and other on-line retailers, due to limited shopping resources here.
Granted, there are a LOT more stores here, now, than there were a decade ago when we arrived.
But as a convenience, things I order for our daughters are routinely shipped to my office, rather than home (for obvious reasons). A box of items intended for Christmas came in today's mail.
The oh-so-considerate mail carrier managed to cram a 9" wide package into my 8.8" mailbox, and I had to cut it open with a knife to remove the contents, in the building's lobby, before I could pull the package shell through the opening.
Cretins, politicians and public "servants" ... but I repeat myself.

It's snowing lightly this afternoon, and there's snow in the forecast for much of the week. I'm not complaining, mind you: one look at the Atlantic weather map is enough to make me thank God that we're in no danger, here.

I've heard several people talking quietly, among themselves, about what they plan to do to "any blankety-blank U.N. observers" on election day. Seriously, they're using language that made this old sailor blush.
The Alaska State Troopers reliably estimate that 60 percent of Alaskans are armed. IF there are any U.N. personnel up here to (cough, cough)monitor(cough) the election, I'd leave the blue helmets at home ... if I were you.

I know that Mitt Romney has promised to grant waivers to all 50 states, excusing them from enacting ObamaKare. I know he's promised many things ... but I wonder how far a Romney administration would go toward rolling back the nigh-unbelievable predations on our Constitutionally-enumerated rights, the DHS, TSA, warrantless wiretaps, no-knock raids, and the indefinite detention of Americans on an executive's say-so?
The list is incredibly long, and there's much that should be done. I know the economy is one of the biggest irons in the fire right now, but has he mentioned things like that?

It's One of THOSE Mornings
You know those days when you awaken refreshed, and eager to get going? This isn't one of those. :)
It began with the alarm ... that annoying, insistent, incessant beeping from the bedside table. At first I wasn't sure what the noise was, and then knocked my cell phone off the table while fumbling for the 'off' button on the clock.
Got tangled in the covers trying to sit up, and had trouble finding the floor (hint: it's where the cell phone is). Stumbled across the room and knocked my glasses off the dresser.
... sighs ...
Anyway, I finally made it to work. It's 8 degrees out there, and my long-sleeve-shirt-and-down-vest combo was almost inadequate for these temps. Guess I'll have to wear a jacket, tomorrow, or at least some gloves: that steering wheel is painful to hang onto when it's this chilly.

So ... did anyone else suffer through the final debate last night?
The display of disdain (or contempt, take your pick), petulance and inferiority complex was astounding - and that's just Bob Schieffer. Pa-DUMP-bump!
Srsly, if the idea is to convince us which of the candidates is more capable of dealing with the affairs of state, the incumbent failed miserably.
The Navy isn't a game of "Battleship" and we're not counting ships? Really? Even if we have the most technically-advanced ships afloat, you can only cover so much area per ship. There's a point of diminishing returns when you keep reducing the size of the fleet, and we're there. The post-Viet Nam fleet was 600 ships; now we have fewer than 300, and are asking more of it.
If the incumbent had a clue, he'd know that. It isn't about the ability to fulfill the mission, in the liberals' eyes: it's about shrinking the military.
Personally, I'm not willing to settle for America as a third-rate power.

So ...
... y'all know about last night's debate: Romney was prepared, upbeat, and confident. In short, all the things that Obama was not.
The most important point, IMHO, is that Romney finally got to be himself without government or media (but I repeat myself) editing what viewers get to see. It was also rather astounding to hear a candidate refer to the 10th Amendment ... I loved that bit.
Romney has swerved to the right - and it will be up to conservatives to watch him like a hawk, to make sure he stays there.

Alaska's congressional delegation has weighed in on the upcoming election, for whatever that's worth. Congressman Young (R-AK - we only have the one, you know) and Senator Murkowski (Rino-AK) endorsing Romney, and Senator Begich (D-AK) sounding only "lukewarm" in support of the incumbent.
It's hard for me to imagine how any thinking person could support the current president ... but then, as I read on-line the other day, you can't sway someone with facts and reason if their position wasn't based on facts and reason in the first place.
When all they have is "feels good" and "gimme gimme", there's nowhere left to go ... for them. It's a shame, really.

The local newspaper-cum-fishwrapper has made radical changes to its website, and it's actually an improvement. But they still pound the far-left drumbeat. The paper's readership has dropped dramatically in the last few years (like every other newsprint product in the U.S.), and their advertising rates are the highest, among all printed media in town. Yet they continue to ride that liberal/enviro-nazi/anti-Palin/big government horse ... right into the ground.
What? It's not working? Then do it again ... harder!

The weather has moderated here, with highs in the upper 40s to around 50 for the next few days ... or so AccuHunch guesses. It's raining this morning, but was already 47 when I left home.

Something Else To Remember
While much attention is paid to the events of 9/11/01, there's one more thing you should consider. As you think about those who committed the atrocities, ask why the U.S. government is rushing to "normalize" relations with them.
Ask yourself why we're selling tanks and other weapons to them. Ask yourself how it is that they still exist, eleven years after incurring the wrath of the mightiest nation on earth. Ask why we're welcoming them and their sharia law into this country. Why is is suddenly "rascist" to protest all this?

You don’t know that the United States of America is $16 trillion in debt; more than the nation’s annual Gross Domestic Product, the total of all its goods and services.
You know you’re a moron if….
You don’t know that the Obama Department of Justice sued Arizona to thwart its effort to stop illegal immigration and reduce the flow of drugs and human trafficking across its border with Mexico.
You know you’re a moron if…
You don’t know that the Obama administration is still covering up “Fast and Furious”, an operation to move guns to the Mexican drug cartels that cost a Border Patrol office his life.
You know you’re a moron if….
You don’t know that Obama’s “stimulus” program, a $787 billion slush fund for unions, green energy companies, and other cronies of the administration, has been a massive failure.
You know you’re a moron if…
You don’t know that Obama intervened to stop the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline even though it was estimated to produce 20,000 construction and related jobs, and provide the U.S. with Canadian oil without costing the American taxpayer a dollar.
You know you’re a moron if…
After Obama installed pro-union members on the National Labor Relations Board, it ordered Boeing aircraft company not to build a plant in South Carolina.
You know you’re a moron if…
You don’t know that in May 2012 Obama endorsed same-sex marriages, the first President to ever do that. The next day, North Carolina voters approved a ban on gay and lesbian marriages.
You know you’re a moron if….
You think it’s a good idea to reduce America’s nuclear arsenal to 1,500 warheads in a world where the North Koreans have nukes, Pakistan has nukes, and Iran is working feverishly to acquire them.
I could go on, but it is a very long list of things Democrats and liberals apparently either do not know or prefer to ignore.
Voters for Obama will ignore the fact that Obama is “transforming” America into the equivalent of Greece and taking the nation over a fiscal cliff.

Straight From the Horse's Mouth
So the Romneys are selfish for keeping a
horse?
And employing a groom - with a family to
support, and
paying for feed that’s sold by
someone - with a family to support.
And transported in trucks by someone - with a
family to support.
Which were manufactured in a factory by
people - with families to support and
nourished with stuff that’s grown
by farmers - with families to support.
And housed in a barn built by
construction workers - with families to support,
using materials trucked by drivers - with
families to support.
And made with materials from factories with
workers - with families to support.
Sounds to me like Mitt Romney's one horse
has already done more to put Americans to work, than that horse’s (oops) in the White House.

Christians: Silence is Not an Option

The secular left has mastered use of the Internet to further its extremist goals. In fact, President Obama’s web-based “Organizing for America” propaganda machine may have given him the 2008 election.
Let’s beat them at their own game.
To that end, I have a strange request. I’m asking each God-fearing, freedom-loving American who reads this column to forward it, post it, tweet it, print it out and give it to every pastor, priest or cleric you know. If you don’t know any, give it to someone who does.
Why? I agree with Barack Obama that November 2012 represents the most important election of our lifetimes – perhaps our history. Of course, that’s where my agreement with Mr. Obama both begins and abruptly ends.

In Barack Obama’s America, individual freedom is trampled beneath jackboots as a matter of course. It’s already happening at an unprecedented rate.
One need only look to the HHS mandate forcing Christian groups – both Catholic and Protestant – to violate, under penalty of law, biblical prohibitions against abortion homicide.
Or consider recent attempts by multiple elected officials, all Democrats, to shutdown Chick-fil-A – a private, Christian-owned business – simply because its leadership holds the biblical view of marriage.
Is this George Washington’s America, or Joseph Stalin’s Russia?
It’s definitely not your father’s USA.

Despite hundreds of thousands of threatening letters sent by hard-left groups like the ACLU and Barry Lynn’s Americans United, not a single church has lost tax-exemption for socio-political activity – zip, zero, nada. Not even for endorsing candidates from the pulpit.
Indeed, if these anti-Christian bullies had been around two-and-a-half centuries ago, and our forefathers had paid them any mind, we may never have had the first American Revolution.
Don’t let them halt the second.

Leading up to Ronald Reagan’s landslide presidential victory in 1980, Rev. Jerry Falwell captured the crux of the church’s apathy problem: “What is wrong in America today?” he asked. “We preachers – and there are 340,000 of us who pastor churches – we hold the nation in our hand. And I say this to every preacher: We are going to stand accountable before God if we do not stand up and be counted.”
Dr. Falwell’s words ring no less true today.
