Our Faith Will Prevail

Hebrews 6:12 tells us it is through faith and patience that we inherit the promises. Maintaining faith for this nation has not always been easy. I’ve watched it drift farther and farther from God. There have been times of great sadness and mourning as I’ve watched God rejected, morality decline, babies killed, our roots deteriorate, and the overall church of America weaken. Obviously, it has looked, at times, like satan and those aligned with him are winning the war. Their arrogance and mockery sometimes makes it more challenging.

On my journey the last 20 years, I have traveled millions of miles to thousands of meetings in hundreds of cities - all to pray and encourage others to do the same. I have fought discouragement and the frustration of wondering why more believers - especially leaders - don’t take seriously the need to pray for America. I have listened to naysayers’ unbelief, eschatological explanations as to why I am wasting my time, and ill-informed rebukes about being an American nationalist and/or controlled by a political spirit (even though my passion for America is centered around our calling to serve and evangelize other nations, and I’m not registered with either party.)

Emotions are sometimes challenging to deal with. I have experienced anger over Never-Trumper’s who prefer killing babies over mean tweets, and pompous pastors who preach that God forgives sinners and doesn’t remember their sins, while continuously bringing up President Trump‘s past. I watched with shock while spiritual leaders refuse to pray and take a stand against cheating, then congratulated a staunch pro-abortionist (and who has since become the most pro-abortion president in history). I was disgusted as some of them castigated well-meaning prophetic believers whom they felt “missed it.” (A few did, most didn’t. Their decrees were declarations of faith or words stating God’s desire, not His guarantee.)

God never said faith journeys would be easy.

In spite of the ups and downs, by God’s grace and help I can say I have never doubted His word to me that a Third Great Awakening is coming to America; nor that this awakening will turn our nation back to Hiim and our righteous roots. We will be restored to our God-given destiny. America shall be saved!

When needing to make a stand of faith, we must reach a point where what God says is the only determining factor for what we believe. That alone is biblical faith. Faith cannot be based on what we see around us, what others say, or how long it has been since the promise was given.

When God was about to bring Israel into their fullness of time, giving them the promised land of Canaan, he made it clear to Joshua that faith would be required to possess the land.

In Joshua 1:2 God said to Joshua, “Cross this Jordan,” (italics mine). He was pointing out that it was not the Jordan of several months earlier, nor the Jordan of a few months from then. It was this one - which was in flood stage! (see Joshua 3:15) At this time, the Jordan River was probably a mile wide, very deep, and, as far as these Israelites were concerned, impassible. Yet, God told Joshua that the nation - men, women, children, animals, possessions - would have to cross this Jordan in 3 days. One would imagine Joshua was tempted to think: we’ve waited 40 years! A few more months won’t hurt. Gimme a break! If he did, he didn’t say it. On the contrary, he started packing! What incredible faith it took to receive this word from the Lord!

We, too, will face impossible situations and insurmountable odds at times when we are in the process of turning a nation. It will require much faith. We are there now in America. We will have to believe God is going to do His part - the impossible - to get us to where we need to be. As much faith is needed in the possessing stage as in the long waiting period. Chronos seasons of waiting obviously require faith and patience. But when God says it’s time to reap, faith will also be required then. We must be willing to respond and move in faith, regardless of the odds or adversity.

I love the following story:

“As the drought continued for what seemed an eternity, a small community of Midwest farmers was in a quandary as to what to do. The rain was important not only in order to keep the crops healthy, but to sustain the townspeople’s very way of living. As the problem became more urgent, the local church felt it was time to get involved and planned a prayer meeting in order to ask for rain.

“The pastor watched as his congregation filed in. He slowly circulated from group to group as he made his way to the front in order to officially begin the meeting. Everyone he encountered was visiting across the aisles, enjoying the chance to socialize with their close friends. As the pastor finally secured his place in front of his flock, his thoughts were on the importance of quieting the crowd and starting the meeting.

“Just as he began asking for quiet, he noticed an 11-year-old girl sitting on the front row. She was angelically beaming with excitement; and lying next to her was her bright red umbrella, poised for use. The beauty and innocence of this sight touched the pastor’s heart. He realized this young girl possessed faith that the other people in the room seemed to have forgotten. The rest of the people had just come to pray for rain...she had come to see God answer.”(1)

If we are going to see America turn, we better bring our umbrellas!

God did something else to let Joshua know this reaping season was going to require faith. He made sure they crossed the Jordan near Jericho (Joshua 3:16), perhaps the most fortified and impregnable city in Canaan. As Joshua was staring at this stronghold, God made one of His periodic, outlandish statements, “See, I have handed Jericho over to you, with its king and the valiant warriors,” (Joshua 6:2).

My very human response would probably have been something like, “See what? All I see is one of the most fortified cities in all of Canaan. And, by the way, couldn’t we start with one of the smaller, vulnerable towns? Until we get a little experience and momentum. I mean, we were nomads a couple of days ago, our army hasn’t fought a battle…”

God, however, was making a point through the flooded Jordan and impregnable Jericho: “The success of this endeavor doesn’t depend on the size or experience of your army. It doesn’t hinge on when or where you cross the Jordan. And the size or strength of the adversary means nothing. Success will be decided ONLY and TOTALLY by My ability and your willingness to obey and partner with Me. Got it, Josh?”

Got it, praying church in America?

Let’s pray.

Pray with me:

Father, Your cause is great and noble. You are determined to offer this entire planet the privilege of knowing You, entering Your family. You love the entire world with immeasurable love. Christ is the proof.

A showdown is coming. Demonic rulers over Jericho’s are fearful, sensing that You are coming. They are correct. A shift is in process. The times and seasons are changing. We are going to cross the Jordan. Yes, it is flooded, impassable. No matter! We’re going across. We’re taking Jericho. Jubilee trumpets, marching feet and a shout of triumph will bring Your victory.

We pray for the faith of our brothers and sisters, Father, as Christ did for Peter. He prayed that Peter’s faith wouldn’t fail, and it didn’t. It looked like it had, but, no, You sustained him. And we believe You will do so with today’s warriors, also. Sustain them, we pray! May they look at America and other Jericho nations of the earth with eyes of faith and hear You say, “See, I have given you the city.”

Our decree:

We decree that we will do what is necessary and stand by faith!

Dutch Sheets: "It's Okay to be Angry"

 I do not think it appropriate today to release a post that ignores the events of the past couple of weeks. Like many of you, my emotions are pretty raw. Though my faith is strong, still, I’m a mix of anger, grief, sadness, shame, and embarrassment. Faith and hope do not insulate against grief, nor do they demand denial.

• I’m angry that my nation is led by weak, unprincipled liars.

• I’m angry that the innocent have and will suffer - mercilessly.

• I’m angry that brave young women and men pay for the stupidity, arrogance, and selfish ambition of spineless bureaucrats, lying politicians, senile puppets, and woke, incompetent, military leaders.

• I grieve, realizing the horror experienced by 80-year-old Americans in Afghanistan who were heartlessly abandoned by their government.

• I grieve over mothers and small children beaten by demonized animals as they tried to get to the Kabul airport.

• I grieve over busloads of them who were stopped and turned away by the “new and different” Taliban.

• I grieve for the pregnant woman kicked in her stomach for trying to flee from our government’s “trusted” new partners.

• I grieve over those who made it to the airport gates only to be turned away by our “honorable” military leaders.

• I grieve for the 13 young Americans and their families who needlessly lost their lives, as well as for the 150 or so innocent Afghans who were blown to pieces.

• I am saddened by all of the above.

• I am saddened because I know the suffering isn’t over.

• I am saddened because I know none of it was necessary.

• And I am saddened that some of my brothers and sisters will be martyred.

• I am ashamed and embarrassed for my country.

• I am ashamed because we have unprincipled leaders.

• I am embarrassed that Americans would give a senile, incompetent liar the most powerful position in the world.

• I am embarrassed as our shameless government and military leaders, those responsible for all of this, pat themselves on the back with disgusting self-adulation and sycophancy while the torture and beheadings begin. (We’re not surprised that a nation with our wealth, resources, and a military as dedicated and well-trained as ours can evacuate as many people as they did from Afghanistan in 2 weeks. Stop back-slapping yourselves over this. We’re surprised that you wouldn’t allow this well-trained force to go outside the walls and get the rest! And that you took orders from terrorists.)

• I am ashamed and embarrassed that we turned our backs on friends, fellow warriors (then called them cowards), allies, and helpless women and children.

• I am embarrassed that many of our leaders who wept and ran in fear on January 6th while their desks were overturned and windows broken - and won’t stop talking about it - can smile and boast as they talk about Afghanistan.

Having dumped my all-too-human emotion on you, I want to leave you with a dose of faith and hope...because I still believe! It is imperative that we not give up or grow cynical. Go ahead and grieve - just as I am - but get up and march on! Use the anger; don’t let it use you. We WILL win.

• I believe God is good and will infuse redemption into this evil.

• I believe principalities are being judged and will be dislodged by Christ and His church.

• I believe many Afghans will turn from Islam and to Christ because of the tragic suffering.

• I believe this will spread to other people and nations in the region. I believe the Arab World, the Middle East, and other Muslim nations will receive an earth-shaking revival.

• I believe America, too, will experience revival.

• I believe the EKKLESIA will accomplish everything Jesus said she would accomplish.

• I believe the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

2 Corinthians 4:7-9 says, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels so that the extraordinary greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (NASB)
“We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within so that this immeasurable power will be seen as God’s, not ours. Though we experience every kind of pressure, we’re not crushed. At times we don’t know what to do, but quitting is not an option. We are persecuted by others, but God has not forsaken us. We may be knocked down, but not out.” (TPT)
Pray with me:
Father, once again we appeal to You for mercy. We are not asking for what we deserve, we are asking for Your lovingkindness and mercy, which You love to bestow. We plead the precious blood of Jesus over America, asking You to forgive her and restore her fully to your ways and precepts. Revive us; give us Your mercy.
We also ask You for a wind of Your Spirit to blow all across the earth. We ask for this wind to destroy Your enemies and redeem those who are willing to respond to You. Rescue billions of people from sin and darkness. We ask for dreams and visions to be given to those who don’t know You. We ask that angels be sent to show them the truth about Jesus and who He really is. We ask for Jesus to literally appear to many, also.
And we pray for the precious people of Afghanistan. We pray for comfort, deliverance, protection, salvation, and the breaking of the hold of this evil regime. Work miracles to reverse what has occurred there. And for those who are relocated to other nations, may they find Jesus there. We pray these things in Christ’s name. Amen.
Our decree:
We decree that great revival is coming to the people of Afghanistan, and to many others in the Muslim world.

Dutch Sheets: "The Power of Hope"

The Power of Hope

“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.” 1 These are the opening lines of the song, Solid Rock, written in 1834 by Edward Mote, a Baptist pastor from England.

The well-known refrain states:

“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand,

All other ground is sinking sand.” 2

The refrain of this hymn is based on Matthew 7:24-27, which anyone who’s attended Sunday school will recognize as the parable of The Wise and the Foolish Builders. The passage says:

“Anyone who hears these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded over, and the wind blew hard against that house. But it did not fall, because it was built on rock. But anyone who hears these words of mine and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded over, the wind blew hard against that house, and it fell. And what a terrible fall that was!” (GNT)

Most of the words of this song, not just the refrain, are based in scripture. Edward Mote must have been a man who loved God’s Word. He had come to understand hope was found in Christ, and he clearly embraced this truth in his life. I’m sure he had no idea the powerful song he ended up writing would become a classic, reminding the millions who would someday sing it that hope is found in Jesus.

Hope is not something we need only now and then, based on circumstances. Hope must stay alive; it begins with Christ. The day we say yes to Him there is an expectancy of a different outcome to our lives. Eternity is planted in our hearts and hope is a fruit growing from it, keeping our hearts turned toward Him.

The Lord tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 He has good plans for us and, as they unfold, we will see He gives us “a good future and a hope.” The hope He gives, motivates us to pursue the future He has planned. This allows us to impart hope, which puts wind beneath the wings of others, especially the children we raise. Hope looks past any fog or darkness that may be encroaching on our path, and helps us find our way forward.

I state in my book, The Power of Hope: “Hope is to the heart what seeds are to the earth. Without hope life is sterile, unfruitful. Without it dreams won’t be conceived; destinies won’t be realized. Hope is powerful because it is the starting line, the genesis, the launch pad. It is, in fact, the incubator where faith is formed: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for,” God tells us (Hebrews 11:1 KJV, emphasis added). If there is no hope for the future, there will be no faith to face it - let alone build it.” 3

Strong’s concordance tells us the word “hope” in Jeremiah 29:11 is the word “tiqvah”. It has two meanings: “an expectancy;” “a cord, as an attachment.” The second definition is fascinating. Hope connects us to our future.

Our friend, JoNell Burch Garland, wrote a wonderful book entitled Threads of Hope...in a Frazzled World. It’s a devotional in which she has written 31 short words of encouragement on the topic of hope. JoNell shares a testimony on day nine about hope as expectancy. She describes the important difference between expectation, which is a hope-killer, and expectancy, which is a hope-nurturer:

“Some time back I was in a situation where I had prayed harder, fasted longer, and did my very best to follow all the right pathways to see a specific prayer answered. Believing I’d heard from God and giving it my all, I was doing my best to do all the right things. Well, much to my utter surprise and disappointment, nothing turned out as I thought it should or would. This caused me great grief, and I caused others grief in the process also.

“One morning while I was in prayer, the Lord broke into my thoughts and asked me a simple question. ‘JoNell, you’ve ceased to expect much from Me, haven’t you?’ Knowing He values honesty, I responded to Him simply, ‘Yes, that’s true, Lord.’

“Then He spoke something to my heart that changed me forever. He said, ‘Daughter, when you cease to expect good things from Me, you protect your heart from the pain of disappointment, but you break Mine.’ Then He said, ‘How would you like it if your children no longer expected good things from you?’

“I realized then that dwelling at or on disappointment sets us back from the onward journey He has for us. At this place, if we are not careful, we say basically, ‘Okay, I will walk with You and I will love You, but I am not expecting much out of our relationship any longer. I will just keep my expectations low and I will be fine.’”

JoNell goes on to show us the disciples dealt with this same issue. “We had our hopes up that He was the One,”( Luke 24:21). She explains, “Jesus had not lived up to their expectations, and it weighed heavily upon their souls as they walked along...Expectation is based on what we want to see. Expectancy is based on WHO He is, not on what He will do.”1

This brings us back to the words of Mote’s song, “Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” At some point while walking along life’s path with the Lord, this powerful truth became a revelation and he shared it with all the world in his hymn.

The second definition of “tiqvah” is a “cord or rope.” It is used in this way in Joshua 2:18. A woman named Rahab hid the Israelite spies when they came to Jericho to check out the promised land. Because she helped them, they were led to save her and her family from the destruction coming to Jericho. The spies gave her a red cord and told her to hang it in her window. They cautioned her to be sure all of her extended family members were in the room with the cord, so they could all be saved. In verse 21, she accepted their offer. It was a very good thing she did. The entire city and its inhabitants were destroyed; only Rahab and her family survived. The passage reads, “When we come into the land, you must leave this scarlet cord [hope] hanging from the window through which you let us down… ‘I accept your terms,’ she replied. And, she sent them on their way, leaving the scarlet rope [hope] hanging from the window.” (NLT)

Rahab was being asked to put her hope in these men and the God she knew was with them. Their promise to her was a covenant expressed in the blood-red cord. Most scholars see this as a prophetic picture of Christ’s shed blood, which is where we place our trust. This symbolism seems even more likely when we realize Rahab married a man from the tribe of Judah (Salmon) and became the mother of Boaz. King David was one of her descendents. She was part of Christ’s lineage! That He descended from Rahab makes it almost certain that the scarlet cord symbolized the blood of Christ, through which we are saved.

Mote’s song says, “His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.” Let’s put all our hope in His covenant with us, knowing we are saved and anchored solidly in His love and plan.

“Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.” (Zechariah 9:12 ESV)

Pray with me:

Father, we ask You to heal Your people from hope-deferred. You tell us hope-deferred makes our hearts sick (Proverbs 13:12). Heal them spiritually and emotionally so they can be hope-givers to those around them. Many have been in a season of disappointment; some have even abandoned hope, and lost faith in You. They have allowed circumstances to determine how they see and relate to You. Hope can correct our vision and bring us into right relationship with You. You are great! You are good, faithful and have a plan to bring us into a hope-filled future.

We break off of Your people fear, disillusionment, hope-deferred, weak hearts, and confusion. We release Your promise of “no fear,” but instead “power, love, and a sound mind.” We release over them the spirit of faith (2 Corinthians 4:13). Our hope and faith are strong for ourselves, our families, and our nation. We pray and decree these things in the name of our solid rock, Jesus! Amen.

Today’s decree:

We declare that a hope-filled church will reflect Jesus, rejoicing in hope, standing patient in tribulation, and remaining constant in prayer.

Giants Will Fall

 Satan hates geographical locations that have become meaningful to God and His people. When possible, he seeks to defile them, using perversions, violence, covenant breaking, idolatry, and the shedding of innocent blood. Hebron, as a type of Christ and a picture of covenantal friendship with God, became a prime target, and in the four centuries between Abraham and Joshua, evil giants had overtaken the city. In fact, the greatest of all the Anakim (giants), Arba, made it his stronghold and renamed Hebron after himself: Kiriath-Arba, meaning “the city of Arba” (see Joshua 14:15).

By the time the 12 spies of Israel were sent by Moses to check out the Promised Land, three more giants, direct descendants of Anak from whom the giants were spawned, had inherited Hebron (see Numbers 13:22, 28. 33). This holy place, representing friendship and covenant with God, was now ruled by giants and was a place of terror. It so terrified ten of the twelve spies, in fact, that they brought back an evil report of fear and unbelief to the rest of the nation. “There is no way we can take our promised land,” they stated. “The giants are simply too big and powerful.” 

Caleb, one of the 12 spies I spoke to you about a few days back, was indignant. Seeing that Arba and the other giants had defiled this holy city and desecrated the final resting place of the patriarch Abraham, he was angry. His response was to ask Moses for this very mountain-top city as his inheritance. “We can conquer these giants and their fortified cities, guys,” Caleb told the fearful Israelites, “and I’ll take the biggest.” Because of the Israelites’ fear and unbelief, however, Caleb had to wait for this opportunity. Forty-five years later, after 40 years of wilderness wandering by the unbelieving generation and another 5 years of war, it was time. Caleb, now 85 years old, said, “Give me my mountain!” (Joshua 14:12). In asking for this piece of land, this warrior was asking for more than a city; he was requesting the assignment of conquering the greatest stronghold of the giants. 

Caleb was BAD.

The greatest warrior did, indeed, conquer Kiriath-Arba and its giants, then renamed it Hebron. He pioneered Hebron again. Caleb enjoyed a covenantal friendship with God. He also paved the way for it to become David’s first capital and a picture of Christ, our Savior, and our Refuge. 

God is making an encouraging and wonderful announcement: “I am going to empower you to confront and take out spiritual giants ruling regions of the earth, transforming these regions into strongholds of life. You are going to transform spiritually dark cities and nations into places where covenantal friendship with God can be experienced, and from which the rule and authority of Christ can be seen again. All that God does on Earth is birthed through His intercessors. My goal today is to bring an understanding of your spiritual weapons, to strengthen your faith regarding knocking out spiritual giants in our land.

The praying Church is about to step into its highest authority and its greatest history-writing role.

I don’t have to tell you that things are shockingly out of control. The Church of America is discouraged, confused, people are finger-pointing and the giants in our land are mocking us in the name of their gods. Every part of American society is screaming for cause-minded, impassioned followers of Christ to arise and represent HIM and resurrect our song.

It’s past time to abandon our denial. Many Americans are like the optimist Mark Twain wrote of. Describing a fight he was obviously losing, this denial expert bragged, “Thrusting my nose firmly between his teeth, I threw him heavily to the ground on top of me.” 

We, in America, especially the body of Christ, must wake up to our true condition. America has become the proverbial frog in the kettle – We’ve been dying and don’t know it. Like the band on the RMS Titanic, we continue playing while the ship is sinking. There is no human answer for America’s punctured hull. We cannot bail the water fast enough

I have great hope for America; our song CAN be resurrected. But for hope and optimism to be legitimate, they must exist in the light of reality. Otherwise, they’re nothing more than denial-driven complacency. In misguided optimism, like the causeless army of Israel when facing Goliath, we have convinced ourselves that if we wait long enough, the shocking giants of the land will go away and leave us alone. 

Satan, however, has no intention of letting up in his relentless assault on America. Positive change will only come when a people of passion, like Caleb, rise to the challenge and meet the enemy in spiritual battle. If we do, we can turn the tide. 

Repentance of sin, turning back to God, and a Third Great Awakening are America’s only hope. Will this occur? Will we see the fulfillment of these and other hope-filled promises? A resounding YES!!! Modern-day Caleb’s – bold, cause-minded spiritual warriors – are rising. 

God is giving America a chance to re-write her epitaph. If written today, it would read, “Weighed in the Balances and Found Wanting,” or perhaps, “The Giants Won.” But our gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abounding in loving-kindness, forgives sinners and heals nations.

And to cause-minded Caleb’s…He gives anointings to slay giants.

You, my friend, are a giant slayer.

Give Him 15 minutes in prayer:

• Ask God to show where you may be complacent – even procrastinating a spiritual assignment He has for you.
• Re-engage your “Caleb” spirit – the warrior within.
• Commit to being part of the praying Church and not sitting on the sidelines.
• Remind yourself of the covenantal friendship you have with Jesus. Allow yourself to be refreshed in His presence.
• Determine that you want to be part of America’s renewal and rebuilding, writing history and making a difference.

A prayer you can pray:

Lord, we thank you for the examples you give us in scripture. We can find encouragement and tools for our journey as we read biblical history and the passages that describe how You helped Your people. You never made them walk alone or figure it out by themselves. Instead, you empowered them and encouraged them.

We are grateful for Caleb’s example – the warrior who was not afraid in the face of discouragement, overwhelming odds, and possible defeat. Not only were the giants intimidating, but the weaknesses of others forced him to wait longer to take them out than he had initially planned. Oh, how we wish that timing wasn’t a factor – that we could always see the results of our prayers immediately.

But we will not remain discouraged. We will come into your presence and find refreshment and clear direction for the future. We drink deeply from your wells and as we pray, our eyesight is becoming clearer. 

We agree with you, Holy Spirit, that Your plans for America have not changed. Her destiny and purpose are just as clear today as before. We will embrace Your will, Your guidance, and sharpen our ears to hear You even more clearly as we move forward. We thank you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Decree:

We decree that we are giant slayers!

The fear being released in relation to the coronavirus is more dangerous than the virus itself...FEAR is a major door opener for demonic portals in the Earth realm. Remember God's perfect love casts out fear! (1 John 4:18)


"He wars for us as we praise Him" is the best move possible. This battle is the Lord's. The enemy is not the virus- it is the fear, but God is doing something even bigger in the midst. (The Lord will have His way in the storm. Nahum 1:3)

Hard to believe it's the first of May already, isn't it? Seems like this year just got started, and it's nearing the halfway point already.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

What Are You Waiting For?

What are you waiting for?

Everything that Jesus did for you - everything that He wants you to accomplish in this life - was ordained and completed 2,000 years ago, on the cross.

I know this won't apply to all, but many of you believe that He has placed a calling on your life. Have you asked Him when to start? Maybe it's later, but what if it's now? Do you know for sure?

It doesn't take any faith to stand in the back of the crowd, waiting. Faith is getting out on the edge, so far out that you'll fall if He doesn't catch you. Faith isn't believing that He can; it's believing that He will.

Ask Him what He wants you to do, and when He wants you to start. Take a step of faith and see what happens. After all, Peter didn't walk on the water until he got out of the boat!*

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.

By faith, we see the world called into existence by God’s word, what we see created by what we don’t see.

By an act of faith, Abel brought a better sacrifice to God than Cain. It was what he believed, not what he brought, that made the difference. That’s what God noticed and approved as righteous. After all these centuries, that belief continues to catch our notice.

Tuesday Thoughts

“I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8 (NIV)*

With all that's going on in the world, it's an increasingly scary place. It's very easy to get caught up in the politics, gossip, conspiracies, and all else that makes it so hard to get through the days.

Is the political scene in the U.S. out of control? It seems that way sometimes, and you could readily lose your way, going from blog to blog, article to article, this news headline and that. But God never told us to look at the circumstances; He said to keep our eyes on Him.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:1-5, 14-15 NIV)

Don't lose your way in the events of the times in which we live. Keep your eyes - and your faith (your steadfast confidence in things not yet seen, but promised by and expected from God - on Him. As it's written, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)

No matter how awful the news is, He will see us through. The more we lean on Him, the more He takes care of us. Just get your eyes off of your circumstances. You hear so many say, "Well, I'm doing okay ... under the circumstances."  Who told you to put yourself under the circumstances?

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

“That is why I say to you, don’t worry about living—wondering what you are going to eat or drink, or what you are going to wear. Surely life is more important than food, and the body more important than the clothes you wear. Look at the birds in the sky. They never sow nor reap nor store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you much more valuable to him than they are? Can any of you, however much he worries, make himself an inch taller? And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the wild flowers grow. They neither work nor weave, but I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was never arrayed like one of these!
