Not Much of a Warmup
It was -12 when we went to bed last night, but only -4 this morning. At least there's the prospect of getting above zero today ... that's a nice change of pace.

I see where the "gimme a warm fuzzy" crowd organized candle-light vigils "for the victims of the Connecticut shooting" in Anchorage & Palmer (a town to the north of here). Could someone please explain to me how lighting a candle will help those folks some 4,000 miles away?
Didn't think so.
It only serves to make said "warm fuzzy" crowd feel better about themselves. And I'm sure that remark will probably upset some folks. Truth is often painful; too bad.
I also see where the head of Anchorage schools is reviewing campus security. Now that's helpful.

School attack unlikely to change Alaska delegation's opposition to assault weapons ban. Good. It's not about firearms; it's about neglecting the mental health of troubled youths.
I refuse to surrender my God-given, unalienable rights because some nutjob stole guns and then murdered those people. I haven't done anything wrong, and will NOT accept punishment because someone else broke the law.

The biggest story in local news is that a large downtown bar/nightclub has closed due to political opposition to the renewing of its liquor license. Said bar leads the list of violent acts/crimes, with 27 in the last five years (per the local newspaper). I'm sorry for those who have lost their jobs during the holidays, but the bar itself? Not so much.
That's enough for this morning.
