Local News: Odds & Ends

Gas dropped from $3.12 to $3.10 for exactly 48 hours, and today shot up to $3.17 per gallon. Yay.

A local pilot was severely injured when his Cessna 170B crashed in a bog a quarter-mile from the end of the gravel strip next to Lake Hood, yesterday. He apparently broke both legs in several places, but was conscious and speaking with paramedics when they arrived.

Anchorage state Rep. Harry Crawford will attempt next fall to do what no other Democrat has managed in 36 years of trying: defeat Alaska Republican Congressman Don Young. Read the story here.

A postal customer went, uh, postal because her mail was late, threatening a postal worker and assaulting a police officer.

It's 54 degrees, raining lightly, and overcast (well, duh, Paul) this afternoon. AccuHunch alleges this pattern will continue through Saturday night.

Men's Health magazine says Anchorage ranks number two (our motto: "We're number two!") in the number of fast food places per capita. We trail Arlington, Texas on the list of the top 100 fast-food-junkie havens in the U.S.

On a list where we rank first: in 2004, a restaurant industry newsletter said that Anchorage residents dine out an average of 8.3 times weekly - the highest number in the U.S. That .3 of a meal must be the one fed to the .4 of a child in the "average" family.

See? Math came in useful after all. My 8th grade teacher would be so proud.

You, of course, have no need to dine out since you have a budding chef on staf, so to speak.

Come on! What's she making this week?

And about that postal story...What would this woman have done in the bade time of year when there's so little sun light up there? She seems to be a bit loco now.

If she's wacky now, she'd be a loon in December or January. Best it happened now.

Tonight, we're having some leftover pot roast, potatoes, etc from an earlier feast. Tomorrow, YD is making something new but won't tell me what it is.

OK, but try topping the top drinking colleges list (University of Wisconsin-Madison) or the Most Alcohol Consumed Per Capita list (Wiscsonsin 3rd). You gotta love Milwaukee and Madison.
