“Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty” (Samuel Adams)
Many have accurately described the decline of modern America, for all the varied and sundry reasons discussed here and elsewhere.
Our words won't change anything.
At what point do we stop bemoaning the decline, and step forward to lead the return to those foundational principles and beliefs which made America the greatest nation in the world? Resistance is not futile ... but it's largely an individual response. We outnumber the small percentage of Progressives who wish to sweep us into History's dustbin, by a very large margin.
It's time, folks.

Agreed.
We have worked so hard to be nice, to not offend anybody. That's not realistic and it doesn't go both ways. It's time to start standing up and seriously offending some folks.
So, upon a little reflection. How do we engage? My experience has been that those most complacent or in agreement with our current situation are unlikely to allow an actual debate. Given an opinion different from theirs, they are most likely to respond with anger, snideness, denegration, straw man non-arguements, and shrillness rather than actually debate. You know the drill - a different opinion means you are hateful, devisive, ignorant, etc., etc. There is a twisted sense of superiority that allows for huge gaps in logic and behavior that belies their own declarations of belief - perfect example being the "everybody make nice and be careful of what you say about people" coming from the same ones that say any vile thing that comes to their head about Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachman. So, how do you have a conversation with someone who, no matter what they say, isn't really interested in an actual CONVERSATION?
