Odds & Ends From the News

I Can See Clearly Now Dept:  The Coast Guard's icebreaker & the Russian tanker which recently provided fuel to Nome & other western villages in Alaska have reached open water again, on their ways home.

What Was He Thinking Dept:  The Unalaska Police Blotter reports that a gentleman leaving the Unalaska post office backed his vehicle into the only other car in the lot - a marked police car. Those folks know how to have a good time, no?

What Was He Thinking, Part II Dept: the Unalaska police also responded to a report of an irate passenger at the local airport, yelling at the PenAir employees there. They advised him that it might not be the best idea to harass the employees of the only airline in town, if he ever wanted to get out again.

Slip-Sliding Away Dept: In Haines (southeast/panhandle of Alaska) a four-acre tract has started to "slump" and a home is beginning to slide away. The cause is still undetermined.

And the Coasties are trying to figure out how to get her back in the yards for her upkeep (that they had to pay for, even though she's not there)... sigh

Thanks fr the update on the ice breaker and tanker. Seems most news outlets down here forgot all about them as soon as they made the delivery.
