A Well-Worn Meme: Which State is Mostly Likely to Survive Zombie Attack

Turns out living in Alaska has its benefits. We have beautiful national parks and uniquely Alaskan food and entertainment. Now you can add zombie survival skills to that list.

"Estately Real Estate Search" ranked which states are the safest and least safe to live in if zombies rise up and take over the world, and Alaska comes in at number one.

The Estately Blog is a resource designed to help you decide which city or state to call home. For the zombie study, Estatley used five criteria, and then averaged the results to create the rankings. The criteria are: fewest people per square mile, gun owners per capita, percentage of people who are cremated instead of buried, percentage of population that is physically active, and interest in the zombie genre.

Here's how Alaska ranks in those five categories.
1. Fewest people per square mile: Alaska is 1st (source: 2014 U.S. Census)
2. Gun owners per capita: Alaska is 2nd (source: DemographicaData.org)
3. Percentage of people who are cremated instead of buried: Alaska is 13th (source: National Funeral Directors Association)
4. Percentage of population that is physically active: Alaska is 7th (source: The State of Obesity)
5. Interest in the zombie genre: Alaska is 7th (source: Google Trends)

According to Estatley, "Alaska is a zombie's worst nightmare and not just because they could be eaten by wolves and bears, but also because there are miles between potential brain snacks, and the majority of people own guns and know how to use them."

Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota round out the top five states most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse. Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, Rhode Island, and New York are the states least likely to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Zombies have already taken over those last five.

I was going to say they left D.C. off the list, but it's a lost cause anyway. Anyone who's seen the halls of Congress can attest to that.

What Guffaw said...they'd starve to death there.

as for the other states, if we can change Virginia to NORTHERN Virginia exclusively, I say bring on the Zombies!

Guffaw, ML is right. Zombies would have to move along right smartly (if that's not a contradiction in terms) to find anything to eat. Folks with brains don't go there - the evidence is conclusive. :)

ML, if you can manage it, you'd have a job for life.
