After we were done, Older Daughter and I loaded the bags in her pickup for a run to the municipal dump. We were temporarily interrupted by a mama moose and calf which walked through the yard we had raked, and along the street in front of our house.
Mama was a BIG one: one of the strain of moose here that's 10 or 12 inches taller than the rest, well over six feet at the shoulders. She didn't like me one bit, either, and stopped for a second to gauge whether I was a threat, before strolling on.

Turns out we have moose here, too. Mostly up at the higher elevations where the elk hang out, but they come down once in a while....
That's cool, Jim. I hope you get to see a few ... or more than a few. We see them all the time, and it's something that even long-time Alaskans will drop everything for.
It's just so wonderful living here surrounded by Nature.
Living by the ocean was cool, but this makes me feel closer to Him....
Couldn't have said it better myself, Jim. Thanks! :)
Yep, she was there first... LOL
When a 7-foot-tall critter that outweighs you by a thousand pounds says, "Git!" ... you git!
Yeah, at Flank Speed!!
Grew up with moose in Maine, lived with them in base housing in Alaska. You are most correct when something taller than a Chevy Suburban says git, you git!

Jim, I was already behind my daughter's pickup, but I kept backing up anyway.
J.D., that's correct. And that moose was a LOT closer than the cell phone camera makes it appear.
I expect that He told her you were harmless to her and baby. :-)
Just another thing to be grateful for, Linda.
At least her ears were still up and her hackles were down!

They were a bit farther back when she peered around the corner at me, but she hadn't gotten angry yet. That was the difference between backing up, and getting in the truck!
Moose in your yard. That is wonderful. We settle for squirrels, possums, and the occasional rabbit.
TB - it seems wonderful until winter snow lays on the ground. Then you find out we have (in addition to moose) black & brown bears, and lynx. We hear, but haven't yet seen, a pack of wolves on the ridge above us. It's been their land longer than we've been here; we just try to share it without any getting hurt.
