An Enjoyable Friday, and Here Comes the Snow

Today was one which I look forward to, each year. Many of you travel to conventions, off-site gatherings of whatever type, but I hardly ever leave the property which I oversee, except at quitting time.

Today was the annual Commercial Real Estate luncheon present by BOMA*, which I've been a member of for the last decade.

Speakers from the State Dept. of Economic Development, prestigious commercial real estate brokers, and property appraisers of good reputation talk about the State's economic outlook. They review the previous year, forecast trends, employment rates, businesses moving into/out of Alaska, etc.

It's always interesting, and I get to have a reasonably good lunch with people I know.

And my tenants always like to hear which national retailers are preparing to move to Alaska. In many cases, the store they open in Anchorage is the first one in Alaska.

Meanwhile, the predicted snow has begun in earnest. Current predictions are for 3" to 5" tonight, 2" to 4" tomorrow, 5" to 8" on Monday. The high on Tuesday is predicted to be -5°. This could be an interesting weekend. But I have plenty of gas for the snowblower, so we can clear the drive if/when the snow lets up at some point.

Meanwhile, we all have four wheel drives, and going where we need to go - if we need to - isn't an issue.

The highway heading north out of Anchorage at 2:45 pm today. By tomorrow morning, it will be a lot whiter. :)

Summer Solstice

Yes, I know the solstice isn't until Monday, but clouds and rain will obscure much of the sun that day, so let's talk about the sun while it can be seen.

It has been clear and sunny for several days. And nights too, for that matter. We don't have much in the way of "dark", this time of year.

It was hot yesterday; too hot for some. It hit 83 in Anchorage, but only 75 at home. That was plenty warm, as there was practically no breeze. But we did what all good Alaskans do when the temp gets above 70: we turned on every fan we own, and then hung out on the deck.

And ice; we consumed a LOT of icy drinks. The crushed-ice-maker on the fridge got a real workout, yesterday.

But it's all good, and we have lots of shade. The header on this page is our front yard, looking north from the living room.

It'll be cooler today, as the front which will bring us rain on Sunday/Monday begins pushing slowly into the area. I'm okay with cooler. :)

But it's all good, and the weekend is nearly upon us. Most of the chores are already done; the shopping will be finished tonight, leaving tomorrow free for other things. Nearly all the boxes and totes in the garage have been unpacked, and - un milagro! - we could park two cars in our two-car garage. It's nice to see all that floor space open again.

Now Older Daughter and I will have the time and space to begin arranging the tools and workbenches into some semblance of order. We're rather looking forward to that.

All Quiet on the Western Front

Or at least on this far-north, far-west blog.

Busy day, lots going on, and nothing catching my interest to write about.

Another Busy Day

One of the physicians in my building has retired, and is closing his practice. Movers will be here at 8 a.m. to begin carting furniture, files, and a few metric boatloads of stuff to a storage facility. I'll have to supervise for the first hour or so, until his people show up.

But I don't have to lift anything. At least, I hope not.




After that, just the usual end o' the week things.

I'd stop doing this, except we have a powerful need to eat every once in awhile.
