Facing Your Fears
"The time to take counsel of your fears is before you make an important battle decision. That's the time to listen to every fear you can imagine! When you have collected all the facts and fears and made your decision, turn off all your fears and go ahead!"
~ General George S. Patton

God's Word for Friday, 10/26/18
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV
Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

Words of Wisdom
When a talking woman sits quiet, a man had better look at his hole card and keep a horse saddled.

When a woman says "What?", it isn't because she didn't hear you. She's giving you a chance to change your answer.
"Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired."
~Jules Renard
"I might repeat to myself slowly and soothingly a list of beautiful quotations from minds profound - if I can only remember any of the damn things."
~Dorothy Parker
"What's the use of a good quotation if you can't change it?"

Monday Morning Thought
My buddy in Missouri sent me a list of Thomas Jefferson's accomplishments and several quotes.
I wrote this in response:
My friends, I won't stop talking about history, the Founders ... and about our Constitution; I truly believe it to be a document inspired by God Himself. For that matter, so did the Founders themselves.
Several wrote, after the dust had settled, that they couldn't figure out how such a historic document came from all the squabbling and politicking as took place during the Convention - unless God made it happen.
I believe He did.
I wrote this in response:
I've been publishing those quotes, off and on, on my blog for years ... but I'm preaching to the choir. I rarely hear from anyone who doesn't already agree with the sentiments expressed by Jefferson. You can go back to around 1885 or 1890 to find the Progressives who decided that the only way to curb the rampant liberty of free Americans was to dumb them down, and stop teaching about the Founders ... and about the Constitution ... and about our history. And it's worked, by and large. The average American citizen has absolutely no idea about any of those things.

Wheelchair Doesn't Limit South High Riflery Coach
When Eric Hollen became the new riflery coach at South High, he called a friend who was uniquely qualified to give him advice -- UAF riflery coach Dan Jordan, who has coached the Nanooks to three NCAA national championships in the last nine seasons.
Jordan said he gave Hollen two tips. First, he offered technical advice, because Hollen’s expertise is pistol shooting, not rifle shooting. Second, he told him that not everyone who joins a high school riflery team wants to be an Olympian, so keep expectations mellow and make sure the kids are having fun.
Jordan never once mentioned the obvious, the thing an observer couldn’t miss if watching either man run a practice. Jordan, a silver medalist in rifle shooting at the 2008 Paralympics, never said a word about what it’s like to coach from a wheelchair.

Quote of the Day
"A man must know his destiny. If he does not recognize it, then he is lost. By this I mean, once, twice, or at the very most, three times, fate will reach out and tap a man on the shoulder. If he has the imagination, he will turn around and fate will point out to him what fork in the road he should take. If he has the guts, he will take it."

To See the Northern Lights, Before He Goes Blind
Nine-year-old Ben Pierce of Dallas was born four months early and weighed just 22 ounces.
"We
were warned that he may be blind and deaf and have cerebral palsy among
some of the other challenges," said his mother, Heidi.
The
boy has overcome many challenges but is quickly losing his eyesight,
and realizing his vision is worsening, the family decided to create a
list of things to see before he is blind.
Alaska
was high on the list, and on the trip here he has seen the Aurora and
ridden on a dog sled with Iditarod racer Aliy Zirkle.
"It's really beautiful and pretty," Ben said of the Northern Lights. "It's like water colors going across the sky."
The family plans trips to Turner Falls, Oklahoma, to see Native American dancing, and to visit London and Paris next year.

It's Just Not Happening
I usually write these posts in the mornings, after breakfast but before work. I rarely have any idea what I'll write about, but many times a news snippet or comment will trigger a thought - and then I'm off to the races.
I don't make any claim that my posts are particularly deep, for the most part, although I have my moments. If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you know my style tends to be ... well, scattershot.
Some days, the effort to come up with a topic, or even a general focus, is tougher. Some days, no matter how I peruse the local news rag-cum-bird cage liner, look at headlines on-line, stare at the ceiling, look out the window, walk around the room, check the weather report, tap on the keyboard, or bang my forehead on the table ... nothing happens. No magic. No inspiration.
Nothing.
Nada.
Zip.
Zilch.
And this... is such a day. The weather is a re-run; the news is recycled from Tuesday, ... and I've got nothin', but I repeat myself.
So I'll spare you any further doldrums; have a great Friday! I hope you don't regret dropping by just for this. With any luck - and a little inspiration - post #600 will be better than #599.
