The Future of Medicine

 Remember this?

What do you know? Blogger still allows captions. :)

Remember how "Bones" McCoy could instantly scan for all sorts of issues and injuries? Now look at this:

Slowly but surely, we're catching up with Star Trek. That's a good thing!

So Much For "Rugged Individualism"

Alaskans ... at least those of the "old-time" mentality ... are willing to adapt, improvise, and overcome whatever comes along. Unexpectedly cold? Get out heavier coats, use an extra blanket, or add more wood to the fire.

Unexpected blizzard? It's Alaska; we're disappointed when we don't have blizzards.

Grocery stores short of food? Dig into the stores you set aside for such an event.

Cell phones go off-line? Oh, wait.

"MANY CELL PHONE WITH ATT IN KETCHIKAN AK ARE NOT WORKING AND HAVE NO CELL SERVICE PLEASE FIX THIS"

"I would think a responsible company that knows text is still working would at least text an update to its customers as to when they might expect to regain service."

"just a reminder folks that in a dark emergency, there may be no cell service. a land line will probably still work, and txtg may still work. are you prepared? ooops, not me either."

Really, people? I know everyone's had a cell phone surgically grafted onto their hand, these days, but ... geez. Get over it. It's only a telephone.

Want to talk to your neighbor? (Yes, some of us still do that.) Then GO OUTSIDE and see them.

Come on, folks: we're supposed to be better than that.

Didn't We Just Do a Monday, Last Week?

Then why oh why do we need to do another one? Oh, well.

The white stuff, which was quite welcome after a warm non-winter, is melting already. It's 33 or 34 degrees in most spots around Anchorage, so the snow is slushy already. AccuHunch guesses we'll get into the low 40s today, and in the mid-40s for the rest of the week. The snow will be gone by Wednesday night, at this rate.

The phones were dead when I got to work at 0600; seems the UPS died. But the IT guy came in at a fast trot some 15 minutes ago, and they're back on-line again.

Darn it. :)

This week, we'll find out the value of the appraisal on our new house, and also what the sellers' response to the repair list was. We haven't heard anything about the process since completing the home inspection two weeks ago, and are getting anxious to be moving forward.

Meanwhile, packing continues at a slow-but-steady pace. We won't have to buy much of anything for the new place, and already have everything needed to set up housekeeping there. There are always a few things which are worn out, et cetera, but it's a remarkably short list. I'm okay with that.

That's about all I have for now; more later, I suspect. Thanks for stopping by, friends.

A Word About That Word Captcha Thingy

I have that feature disabled in Settings.
It's there anyway.

Try ignoring it, and just submit your comments; I think they'll come through just fine.

Technology will make our lives easier, they said.
It'll be great, they said.

Riiiiight.

Church Service of The Future

PASTOR: "Praise the Lord!"

CONGREGATION: "Hallelujah!"

PASTOR: "Will everyone please turn on their tablet, PC, iPad, smart phone, and Kindle Bibles to 1 Corinthians 13:13. And please switch on your Bluetooth to download the sermon."

P-a-u-s-e ...

"Now, Let us pray committing this week into God's hands. Open your Apps, BBM, Twitter and Facebook, and chat with God."

S-i-l-e-n-c-e ...

"As we take our Sunday tithes and offerings, please have your credit and debit cards ready. You can log on to the church wi-fi using the password 'Lord909887'.

"The ushers will circulate mobile card swipe machines among the worshipers. Those who prefer to make electronic fund transfers are directed to computers and laptops at the rear of the church. Those who prefer to use iPads can open them. Those who prefer telephone banking, take out your cellphones to transfer your contributions to the church account."

The holy atmosphere of the Church becomes truly electrified as ALL the smart phones, iPads, PCs and laptops beep and flicker!

Final Blessing and Closing Announcements...

"This week's ministry cell meetings will be held on the various Facebook group pages where the usual group chatting takes place. Please log in and don't miss out.

"Thursday's Bible study will be held live on Skype at 1900hrs GMT. Please don't miss this, either. You can follow your Pastor on Twitter this weekend for counseling and prayers. God bless you and have nice day!"

Glow in the Dark (the Update)

I'm heading over to the cardio clinic in 90 minutes, for nuclear imaging of my ticker before & after time on a treadmill. The cardiologist tells me the radioactive dye which they'll put in me is the equivalent of a chest x-ray.

But I had multiple x-rays done 3 weeks ago, after the accident. Why do I need more radiation, again?

Scientists/enviroweenies/talking heads are always 'splaining how radiation is harmful ... so why then are medical folks in such a huge hurry to introduce large doses of the stuff?

I'm kidding. I think.

Update: It was - of course - no big deal. I'll get the results sometime in the coming week, at which point we'll know whether I need a) more stents, b) bypass surgery, or c) nothing.

I'm guessing you know which option I'm rooting for. :^)

Okay, This Is Pretty Cool

Ever wonder what "olden times" would be like with modern technology? This Passover video is great!
