Super Bowl Advice
... from a Marine Corps Colonel in Afghanistan:
"So with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event: save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling."
"Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don't make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification. Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 96-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from your costume, makeup and your entourage."
"Sing 'The Star Spangled Banner' with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America, not you. And please not everything needs to be punked up! We’re getting a little weary of that. And Francis Scott Key does not need any help."

PATRIOTISM: The American Way
I got a lump in my throat when I read this. I grew up thinking of patriotism as THE American way. It's wonderful that somebody saved these posters, and the statement at the end says it all.

let happen? And why?
I guess we are the last generation to see or even remember anything like these!
Whatever happened?
It's called....... Political correctness (or "re-education") happened. Lack of God's name happened. Lack of personal responsibility happened. Lack of personal integrity and honesty happened. Lack of respect and loyalty to our country happened. Lack of being an American happened. Did all of these things die along with common sense? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I for one am still proud to be an American. I don't care that's it's old-fashioned or out of date. It's who I am, and that isn't going to change. |

Local Patriot News
From the Anchorage 2nd Amendment Task Force come these announcements:
- The 2nd Amendment March will be held at the Town Square (Across from the Egan) April 19th from 4:30 to 6:30. This is an open carry event. More information will be forthcoming with the next newsletter.
- Alaskans For Liberty will be having a Tea Party event at the Federal Building from 12:00 to 2:00 on Thursday April 15th.

The Fourth of July
Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of Yorktown , Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.
So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.
Remember: freedom is never free! I hope you will show your support by telling or forwarding this to as many people as you can, please.
It's time we get the word out that patriotism is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics, and baseball games.
