So I made it to and from Wal-Mart, no mean feat in these days of endless road construction. The big box store is 3.5 miles from my place, and I currently have to go a mile farther to avoid the construction and closed roads. "They" say it will all be better when the project is finished in September 2010. Yeah, right. More likely, they're just rearranging the potholes.
The freeze/thaw cycle and frost heave are murder on roads. I'm surprised they hold up as well as they do.
So at Wally's place, I made a beeline for the ammo counter, like always. To my surprise, they had some ammo. A few boxes of this, that, and the other. Nothing in the calibers I need, of course.
The biggest surprise was at least 25 200-round 'megapacks' of Remington .223 ammo. On the other hand, I doubt there will be any left by tomorrow.
So, with new wipers for the car & truck, I made my way back 'round the barrels, road signs, warning flag wavers, and police cars with flashing lights, and tooled on down the highway.
In another surprise, the sun has come out, and our temp has risen to 62. I notice that AccuHunch has modified its forecast to reflect the current temp as its predicted high for the day ("Uh, yeah, that's what we meant to say").
A stiff breeze is rising, though, and my short-sleeve shirt is suddenly too cool. Guess it's about time to inventory the winter shirts, and get prepared for colder weather.

Hate to say the "F" word, but Fall appears to be arriving. It is State Fair time, after all.
As my boot camp DI insisted, "If it's inevitable, you might as well relax and enjoy it."
It's not like we have a choice!
I missed the gun show today. My two coworkers who I go with, were sick with bad colds and I had enough to do around the place I kept busy.
There's a chill in the air, and I hope I mowed the lawn for the last time, but I'm sure there will be more of that.
The ammo situation seems to be slowly improving here. I have been using old components to load ammo for training rather then shoot factory ammo that is both difficult and expensive to replace. I finished using some primers that I got on a trade some years ago that have to be 20 years old. I'm getting about 5% duds so I'm getting lots of practice on my immediate action drills. I also heard that Wally World has just had a price increase on ammo.
Brigid - sorry to hear you missed the show. Perhaps Sunday is a second chance?
TDG - I'm glad the ammo is better somewhere. My friends in Missouri tell ammo supplies are almost back to pre-election levels. I begin to wish I could easily transport back to the midwest & pick some up, but that's not an easy task from up here.
