Gov. Parnell, Alaska Continue to Support Self-Defense

From an Associated Press story:

A spokeswoman for Gov. Sean Parnell says he continues to support a so-called "Stand Your Ground" law in Alaska.

Sharon Leighow says Parnell's position hasn't changed since last month, when he signed legislation allowing for use of deadly force in self-defense in any place a person has a legal right to be. At that time, Parnell said Alaskans' way of life depends on their ability to carry firearms to defend themselves, provide for their families and "live freely."

It would be sad indeed if Alaska is the last bastion of common sense & personal freedom. You sure all y'all don't want to move here?

The problem would be that after about a month of dim light up there I would turn up on the Unalaska police blotter. Possibly for shooting someone.

Rev. Paul,

We would love to move there, the only problem were both ridden with arthritis. I also understand the cost of living is a bit high.

Exactly, WSF. Exactly!

PH, I doubt it would be that bad. Besides, it's a big state, and Unalaska is just one island. :)

Sandy, the arthritis might or might not be a problem, because the humidity is so low. It does seem to make a difference. Re: the cost of living, salaries are also higher, so the cost is mitigated by income. But I certainly understand.

Just read your latest post on barring plea bargains . . and then this support for 'stand your ground' . .
Tell you what, Rev. Paul . . . if things continue to deteriorate down here in the lower 48 . . Alaska may start to look mighty attractive - even to us winter-phobes.

I understand, Cathy. And for the record, it's 79 degrees right now. Those late October flurries seem a LONG way off... :)
