The last musher (winner of the Red Lantern award) crossed the finish line in Nome on the 16th.
I apologize for the late notice. My wife suffered a fall on the ice last Wednesday afternoon and broke a couple of bones in her leg. I've been nurse and homemaker since then, and this shall be the norm.
Prayers for her healing are appreciated.
Dallas Seavey won the race at 5:16 pm, Alaska time. He finished in nine days, two hours, and 16 minutes.

Photos from yesterday's ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage. There's a world of difference between seeing the photos and experiencing the event: the crowd, the atmosphere, the dogs' excitement. Also, it was around 0° F. when the first sleds left the start line. As one old sourdough told me 20 years ago: "You haven't been to the Iditarod until you've frozen your @$$ off."

Today, the race starts in earnest from Big Lake, about an hour north of the Anchorage area.

The Iditarod Committee disqualified former champion Brent Sass from this year's race. It's for the same, unspecified reason as that which occurred earlier this week with another racer. One would think that, sooner or later, more details will be released.
While other cities reduce or defund their police departments, Anchorage seems to be stepping up. They've added a permanent foot patrol to the downtown area.
